From 1 April 2026 the adult minimum wage is $23.95 an hour before tax. The starting-out rate (for some 16 to 19 year olds) and the training rate are $19.16 an hour. The rate applies to everyone aged 16 and over, whatever your visa, and whether you are paid hourly, by salary or by piece rate. Being paid less is illegal; you can ask Employment New Zealand for help recovering unpaid wages, and doing so cannot affect your visa.
